Document automation

Every document, exactly on brand — every single time.

Design a template once in a visual editor, drop in merge fields from your live data, and render pixel-consistent PDFs at scale. Bring the Word documents you already have, and keep everything in step with Salesforce.

Templates drift. Brands suffer.

Contracts live in someone's Documents folder. The logo is three versions old. Two teams have quietly forked the same quote template, and nobody can say which one is current. Every fix is manual, and every manual fix is a chance to get it wrong.

What it does

One source of truth for every document you send

Visual template designer

Build page layouts on a real canvas — text blocks, tables, rows and sections — with page size, orientation and margins under your control. No markup required.

Live merge fields

Insert {!Account.Name}-style tokens anywhere and Papertrail resolves them at render time, including nested paths and related lists.

Pixel-consistent PDFs

Documents render through a CSS-2.1-safe pipeline with real page breaks, headers and page numbering — so the PDF matches the design, on every machine.

Import your .docx files

Upload the Word templates you already use. Papertrail parses headings, paragraphs and tables, and normalises merge syntax automatically.

Two-way Salesforce sync

Push and pull templates between Papertrail and Salesforce, with content hashing to stay idempotent and conflict detection when both sides change.

Roles, permissions & 2FA

Company-scoped access with Designer, Viewer and Admin roles, password reset flows, and email two-factor authentication built in from the start.

Electronic signatures In development

Send documents for signature, track signer status, and keep a tamper-evident audit trail of every event in the signing lifecycle.

Data collection forms In development

Publish typed, validated forms that feed straight into your documents — so the data arrives structured instead of in an email thread.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself

  1. 1

    Design or import

Start from a blank canvas or upload an existing .docx. Save it to your template library and categorise it.

  2. 2

    Bind your data

Drop merge fields where the values belong. Papertrail validates every token before the template can be saved.

  3. 3

    Render and send

Generate a finished PDF on demand — from the app, or straight from your connected system.

Integrations

Fits the stack you already run

Papertrail links identities with Salesforce for single sign-on, keeps templates synchronised in both directions, and exposes change webhooks so downstream systems stay current. It can act as an identity provider in its own right, with a standard discovery endpoint and token introspection.

Put your documents on rails.

Stop reconciling template versions by hand. Start from one source of truth.
